 Затраты, отнесенные на объект их учета, несмотря на отсутствие фактической операции-основания, отражаемой в бухгалтерском учете. Используются в управленческом учете для получения более качественной информации для целей управления соответствующим центром прибыли/затрат. Например, доля аренды общей площади (если не распределяется в бухгалтерском учете), вмененный расход на управление дочерним предприятием, вмененный процент на вложенный капитал и прочее.

Рассчитанная на основе некоторых рациональных соображений стоимость, которая не отражается в бухгалтерских счетах. Напр., средствам, вложенным в непродуктивные инвестиции, может быть приписана стоимость, равная доходу, который можно было бы получить на них при продуктивном вложении средств — такова трактовка Международных стандартов оценки (МСО).  1.Условно рассчитываемые издержки (напр., проценты, которые можно было бы получить на данную денежную сумму, если бы она не была потрачена на приобретение товаров). 2. Те альтернативные издержки, которые не связаны с покупкой факторов производства на стороне, а относятся к таким факторам, которые не используются, хотя и имеются постоянно в распоряжении фирмы. Например, предпринимательские способности владельца могли бы быть использованы в управлении каким-то предприятием. Неполученный, но возможный при этом доход составляет В.и. Впрочем, ряд авторов не делает различия между понятиями альтернативных и вмененных издержек. (См. Альтернативные издержки, Альтернативная стоимость).
